On 22 April 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Srinivas Gotru, Ambassador of the Republic of India to ASEAN. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to strengthen relations between ASEAN, AIPA and India, and to build resilient and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Both sides highlighted the importance of parliamentary exchanges in deepening mutual understanding and strengthening engagement. Discussions covered key areas including the digital economy, tourism, artificial intelligence, climate change, connectivity, as well as the empowerment of women and youth.

The Parliament of India has held Observer Status with AIPA since 2010, following the 31st AIPA General Assembly in Viet Nam.
