The Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairwoman, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân received the AIPA chairmanship for 2019-2020 at the 40th General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand on August 29, 2019.
She became a full member of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1982 and was officially appointed as the Director of the provincial Department of Finance and Prices nine years later. In April 1995, she moved to the Central Government and was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Finance.
Since 2001, the chairwoman has been a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th tenure). She has become a Politburo (political bureau) member (11th and 12th tenure) of the party for three years (2013-2016). On 31 March 2016, she replaced the position of Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung as the Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
