On 21 January 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, received a courtesy visit from H.E. Mohammed Yazid Benhamouda, Head of the Algeria–Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group, and H.E. Osmane Abdelouahab, Ambassador of Algeria to ASEAN, together with the parliamentary delegation.

The discussion underscored a shared commitment to strengthening engagement and cooperation across political and economic sectors within ASEAN, while reaffirming the importance of democratic values, people-to-people connectivity, and parliamentary diplomacy.

The People’s National Assembly of Algeria granted Observer Status to AIPA in 2025 at the 46th AIPA General Assembly in Malaysia, becoming the most recent parliament to join AIPA’s growing number of Observer Parliaments.
