On 2 April 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Yonetani Koji, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to further strengthen meaningful engagement between AIPA and Japan.
Both sides also highlighted the importance of regional solidarity and unity in preserving peace and prosperity, while reinforcing parliamentary diplomacy amid an increasingly complex global landscape. Moreover, the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange updates on AIPA’s meetings and activities.
The National Diet of Japan has been granted Observer Status by AIPA in 1980, making it one of the longest-standing Observer Members of AIPA. AIPA continues to attach importance to fostering meaningful engagement with its Observer Parliaments.
