On 13 March 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Wang Qing, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of sustaining meaningful and productive engagement between AIPA and China.
Both sides also highlighted the shared responsibility to uphold international order and discussed key issues of mutual interest, including potential collaborative initiatives ahead of the 50th anniversary of AIPA in 2027.
The National People’s Congress of China has held Observer Status with AIPA since 1991, demonstrating its long-standing engagement with the parliamentary dimension of ASEAN. AIPA continues to place importance to fostering sustained engagement with its Observer Parliaments.
