On 14 September 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, was invited as a guest speaker in a Closed Expert Roundtable on “Between Multilateralism and Minilateralism: Parliamentary Perspectives on Regional Security and EU–ASEAN Cooperation,” organised by the Institut de Recherche Stratégique de l’École Militaire (IRSEM) Europe in Brussels, Belgium.

In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of complementarity between multilateralism and minilateralism in promoting a peaceful and rules-based regional order, as well as the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening dialogue and cooperation. He also underscored the importance of continued dialogue between ASEAN and the EU, and among their parliamentary, diplomatic and expert communities, to collaborate, cooperate and coordinate efforts towards ensuring long-term peace, durable security and shared prosperity for their peoples.
