14 July 2023 – The 14
th Meeting of the AIPA Caucus took place in Phu Quoc city of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, Viet Nam, from 9 to 12 July 2023. The Meeting discussed the thematic topic of
“Promoting innovation, transfer, application, and development of science and technology for sustainable growth and development”.
In the opening ceremony, H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of AIPA delivered her remarks and emphasized on the thematic topic demonstrated AIPA’s collective commitment in support towards realizing an ASEAN Economic Community. The theme also reflected as one of the proposed recommendations to the ASEAN Leaders that was highlighted in the AIPA message during the AIPA-ASEAN Leaders’ interface this year.
As a mechanism created to monitor the implementation progress of the adopted AIPA Resolutions, the AIPA Member Parliaments presented their country reports on the status of implementation of 12 AIPA Resolutions adopted at the 43
rd AIPA General Assembly across 4 different committees. The AIPA Member Parliaments and AIPA Secretariat have in total monitored 147 Resolutions adopted in 2017-2022 on its status of Implementation. Approximately 86.8 % of total resolutions have been implemented, while 9.98 % partially implemented, and 3 % have not been implemented.
The launching of the new AIPA Website and Handbook on
“Promoting the Adoption of ASEAN Guidelines on Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry: A Practical Handbook for ASEAN Parliamentarians” also took place during the AIPA Caucus. The Handbook outlined the role of parliamentarians as key strategic change makers to boost responsible investment in Southeast Asia.
Concluding the 14
th AIPA Caucus Meeting, the Head of Delegations of Brunei Darussalam had officially announced the 15
th Meeting of the AIPA Caucus will take place next year in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. Honorable Pehin Dato Haji Adanan Yusof appreciates the continued support from AIPA Member Parliaments and looks forward to a successful meeting next year.
