On 25 February 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Joy M. Sakurai, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of US Mission to ASEAN. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of fostering productive engagement between AIPA and United States (US).
Both sides also engaged in discussions on key issues of mutual interest, including potential collaborative initiatives ahead of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN–US relations and the 50th anniversary of AIPA in 2027.
The United States Congress has been granted observer status by AIPA in 2022 at the 43rd AIPA General Assembly in Cambodia. AIPA continues to place importance to fostering constructive engagement with its Observer Parliaments.
