On 24 February 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, received a Courtesy Call by H.E. Mr. Ralf Beste, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Indonesia, Timor Leste, and ASEAN. The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to further strengthening meaningful and productive engagement between AIPA and Germany.

Both sides also exchanged views on the evolving global landscape and emphasised the growing relevance of parliamentary diplomacy as a complementary dimension in addressing shared global challenges.

The German Bundestag formally granted observer status to AIPA in 2024 at the 45th AIPA General Assembly in Lao PDR, making it among the most recent parliaments to join AIPA in this capacity. AIPA continues to attach importance to fostering sustained engagement with its Observer Parliaments.
