On 21 September 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, had a meeting with Mr. Mohamed Larbi Slimani, Vice-President of the Council of the Nation of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Charge of Foreign Affairs, during his high-level visit to Algeria.

The meeting underscored the growing significance of parliamentary diplomacy in navigating an increasingly complex global landscape, with both sides exchanging views on issues of shared interest, including energy, climate change, peace and security, and economic development. The meeting further explored potential avenues to strengthen engagement between the Council of the Nation, AIPA Member Parliaments, and AIPA.
