On 20–21 August 2026, the AIPA Secretariat attended the 4th ASEAN Consultation on the Human Right to Development to Enhance and Strengthen the ASEAN Community and Its Implementation, held in Dili, Timor-Leste.
Organised by the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), the Consultation brought together AICHR, ASEAN Sectoral Bodies, ASEAN Member States and relevant stakeholders to exchange good practices, experiences and perspectives on the Right to Development.
During Panel 4, titled “Towards an ASEAN-led, ASEAN-owned and Whole-of-ASEAN Approach in Realising and Mainstreaming the Right to Development – Cooperation and Cross-Pillar Coordination,” Ms. Putri Maha Lima, Deputy Secretary-General of AIPA, shared AIPA’s perspectives on advancing and mainstreaming the Right to Development through parliamentary cooperation. She highlighted the role of parliaments in translating regional commitments into national legislation and policies, while strengthening oversight and representation to ensure that development remains inclusive, participatory and people-centred.
