On 17 April 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), had a bilateral meeting with Hon. Oleksandr Korniyenko, PhD, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, on the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement between AIPA and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual concern and explored potential areas of collaboration, including Ukraine’s continued participation in AIPA platforms and outreach initiatives.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was granted Observer Status at the 42nd AIPA General Assembly, hosted virtually by Brunei Darussalam in 2021.
