From 20 to 26 August 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, is participating in the 2026 Seminar for Parliamentarians of ASEAN Countries, themed “Strengthening Exchanges among Legislatures to Foster the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” in Beijing, China. The Seminar is hosted by the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, and organised by the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE).
At the opening ceremony on 20 August, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya highlighted the importance of parliamentary exchanges in deepening mutual understanding and strengthening ASEAN–China relations. As 2026 marks the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN–China Dialogue Relations and the 5th Anniversary of the ASEAN–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, he underscored the importance of sustained dialogue, ASEAN Centrality, and parliamentary diplomacy in complementing State diplomacy. He also reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between AIPA and the National People’s Congress, an Observer of AIPA since 1991.
