On 25 May 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, in Dili, Timor-Leste. The meeting reaffirmed the growing relations between AIPA and Timor-Leste, as well as AIPA’s continued support for Timor-Leste’s integration into the ASEAN Community and its application for full membership in AIPA.

The discussion also highlighted shared priorities under the Philippine AIPA Presidency 2026, including peace and security, digital transformation, climate change, and people-centred development. The Secretary-General further conveyed AIPA’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the National Parliament of Timor-Leste through future parliamentary engagement and capacity-building initiatives.
