On 24 August 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, delivered a remarks during the meeting with the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress, held as part of the 2026 Seminar for Parliamentarians of ASEAN Countries in Haikou, Hainan, China.
In his remarks, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya highlighted the practical lessons from Hainan’s development experience, including the role of science, technology and research in advancing agriculture, as well as Hainan’s potential to strengthen trade, economic and people-to-people connections with Southeast Asia. He also underscored the institutional dimension of development, highlighting the role of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress in supporting development priorities through its legislative and oversight functions, while emphasising the importance of sustaining parliamentary relations to further strengthen ASEAN–China cooperation.
