On 16 April 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Former Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, and Hon. Osman Sağlam, Head of Delegation of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye to AIPA, on the sidelines of the 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange views on regional and global developments, highlighting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing shared challenges, and to explore opportunities to enhance cooperation between AIPA and Türkiye.

The Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye has held Observer Status with AIPA since 2023, following the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia.
