On 11 May 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Mpetjane Kgaogelo Lekgoro, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN. The meeting reflected a shared interest in exploring potential avenues for future cooperation between AIPA and South Africa.

Both sides also exchanged views on key issues of mutual interest, including artificial intelligence (AI), climate change and education. The discussion further underscored the importance of upholding peace and the rule of law, while highlighting the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing shared regional and global agendas.
