On 31 March 2026, H.E. Dr. Chem Widhya, Secretary-General of AIPA, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Tiffany McDonald, Ambassador of Australia to ASEAN. The meeting reaffirmed the importance of maintaining meaningful and productive engagement between AIPA and Australia.
Both sides also exchanged views on the evolving global landscape and the growing relevance of parliamentary diplomacy in navigating complex global challanges. Additionaly, the discussion also explored potential avenues in key issues of shared interest.
The Parliament of Australia has been granted Observer Status by AIPA in 1979, making it the first and longest-standing Observer Member of AIPA. AIPA continues to attach importance to fostering sustained engagement with its Observer Parliaments.
