Free polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for vulnerable members of society is now a step closer to implementation after the House of Representatives today approved on final reading House Bill 6865 or the “Crushing COVID-19 Act”. When signed into law, the full cost of testing, including cost of services of the pathologist, laboratory specialist, and other laboratory staff shall be covered by PhilHealth. Among the beneficiaries of the free PCR testing are the following: 1) patients and healthcare workers with symptoms or without symptoms but with relevant history of travel or contact; 2) non-health front-liners responding against COVID-19; 3) persons with co-morbidities; 4) holders of quarantine passes who do errands for their families; and 5) patients required to submit PCR test results prior to procedure, operation, or treatment. #18thCongress
