From 8-10 September 2020, the National Assembly (NA) of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam hosted the 41st #AIPA General Assembly. The meeting was held virtually for the first time in the history of AIPA due to COVID-19 #pandemic.
The #virtual meeting was attended by the 10 AIPA Member Parliaments (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), 12 Observer Countries (Australia, Belarus, Canada, People’s Republic of China, European Parliament, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, Norway, New Zealand, Russia and Timor Leste), 6 Guests of the Host (Norway, Morocco, Kazakhstan, IPU Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General of #ASEAN, Representative of the #UN Secretary General), and AIPA Partners including ERIA, Freeland, GIZ, and PIC.
On the first day, the meeting started with the opening ceremony followed by the first plenary session, the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA, and Unofficial Meeting of Young #Parliamentarians.
In the beginning of the opening ceremony, the President of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of #Vietnam, the President of 41st AIPA General Assembly, H.E. Madam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan sent her welcoming remarks. WAIPA meeting discussed about the importance of the woman parliamentarians role in securing jobs and income for women workers. Delegates also addressed the importance in engaging AIPA young parliamentarians in ASEAN Community building.
